Coun. Henderson pitches holiday parking fine idea

Councillor Bonnie Henderson is hoping parking fines in Stratford can be used to help families in need this holiday season.

Henderson has suggested the money collected by the city for parking infractions the week of Dec. 1-7 be donated to a local charity to purchase toys for Christmas.

She said she got the idea after hearing about a similar toys-for-tickets campaign being run by the City of Niagara Falls, where people with fines can pay with a new toy donation.

Despite coun. Kerry McManus raising concern about the impact of organizing an initiative on staff time, councillors supported Henderson in having city staff look into the idea and report back at their next meeting.
