Pedestrian dies of injuries

As a result of an accident in Listowel earlier in week, Margaret Eskritt, 69, of Fordwich succumbed to her injuries at a London hospital on Friday, Jan. 23.

On Tuesday, Jan. 20 at approximately 1:45 p.m., Perth County OPP officers were called to a motor vehicle / pedestrian collision at the intersection of Wallace Ave North and Inkerman St. East in Listowel.

Investigation revealed that a GMC Sierra pickup truck was driving south on Wallace Ave North when it made a left turn onto Inkerman St. East. The pickup struck a pedestrian, Margaret Eskritt, in the Inkerman Street crosswalk. She was transported by land ambulance to a local hospital, from where she was transported by air ambulance to a London Hospital with major injuries. The driver of the pickup truck, a 57-year-old male from North Perth, was not injured.

The Perth County OPP, with the assistance of the Western Region OPP Technical Traffic Investigation Unit, are continuing their investigation into the cause of the collision. Anyone who may have witnessed the collision is asked to contact the Perth County OPP Listowel Detachment at 519-291-1414.
