Gerald (Jerry) Butson
Gerald Glenn Butson, 74, of Stratford died at the Stratford General Hospital on Jan. 15. He was born in Staffa, the son of the late Robert and Edna Butson. He worked for Ontario Hydro until his retirement in 1988 and was a member of St. Peter's Evangelical Lutheran Church. He is survived by his wife Esther (Rose) and his children Allan Butson (Robin), Roger Butson (Joyce), Catherine Kelly (Pat), Lynn Swanson (Kirk) and Karen Hall (Mark). A visitation will be held Jan. 18 at St. Peter's Lutheran Church at 10 a.m., followed by a service at 11 a.m. Interment in Avondale Cemetery. Funeral arrangements by W.G. Young Funeral Home.
Gary Allan Dickson
Gary Allan Dickson, 54, of Stratford, died suddenly at Stratford General Hospital on Jan. 7. He was born in Stratford, a son of the late Alva and Mabel Dickson. He is survived by his wife Ann (Bergin), and his children Joleen Dickson, Kelly Dickson (Don Gray), and Brendan Dickson (Stephanie Carlisle). There was no funeral service. Arrangements by the W.G. Martha Sarah Fair
Martha Sarah (MacKenzie) Fair, 91, of Spruce Lodge died Sunday. Born in Richardsville, New Brunswick, she was the eldest daughter of the late Charles MacKenzie and Margaret Irvine and was also a United Empire Loyalist descendant of Colonel Isaac Mann who settled at New Carlisle, Quebec, in 1784. She served with the Canadian Women's Army Corps during the Second World War. She settled in Stratford in 1949. She worked at Fram of Canada, retiring in 1972. She is survived by her husband, "John" Grey and her sons Barry of London and Ron of Mississauga. A private family service was held at the W. G. Young Funeral Home. Interment in Avondale Cemetery.
Nancy Louise Major, 65, of Stratford, died suddenly at Stratford General Hospital on Sunday. She had worked at the Toronto Dominion Bank for many years until her retirement in 1999. She is survived by her mother Velma Wake, Stratford, and her husband Donald Major, as well as her children Brad Moon (Jody), London, Rick Moon (Amy), Dundas, and Jay Moon (Angela), Stratford, and stepchildren Marcel Major (Nancy), Stratford, Susan Major, Stratford, and Bill Major (Denise), California. She was predeceased by her father Austen Wake. A private family service was held at the W.G. Young Funeral Home. Interment in Avondale Cemetery.
Margaret Lillian Pauli, 86, formerly of Wellington St., Stratford, died suddenly at Stratford General Hospital on Jan. 9. She was born in Morris Township, a daughter of the late Lillian and Robert Bell. She was a member of the Stratford General Hospital Auxiliary and the Royal Canadian Legion Ladies Auxiliary. She had worked at International Artcrafts until her retirement in 1986. In 1967 she was predeceased by her husband Gordon Pauli. She is survived by her children Nancy Wilton (Allan), Stratford, and Sharon Prince (Curtis), St. Marys. Besides her parents and husband she was predeceased by a son Robert Pauli. A funeral service was held at the W.G. Young Funeral Home. Interment in Avondale Cemetery.
Doreen Whiting, 78, of Perth Street, Stratford, died Jan. 8 at her residence. Born in Stratford, she was a daughter of the late Frank Whiting and the former Sarah Breen. She worked at Cooper-Bessemer for many years and then with Canada Manpower. She was devoted to her Jack Russell "Tristan" and was an avid gardener and enjoyed the outdoors. She is survived by her sisters-in-law Myrtle Whiting of Stratford and Eileen Whiting of London, several nieces and nephews and special friend and neighbour Elizabeth McNally. She was predeceased by her sister Anne Gamble and her husband Jim, her brothers Lorne, Roy and Francis (in infancy) and her good friend Barbara Duncan. At her request there was no funeral service.
