The Huron Perth Lakers AAA Major Atoms played host to the Cambridge Winter Hawks at the Stratford Dufferin Arena this week.
Cambridge opened the scoring midway through the first period as they scored on a power play. The second period went back and forth until late in the period. Derek Elliott was the lead man on the forecheck and wrestled the puck away from the Cambridge defenceman. Elliott slid a nice pass to Keigan Goetz who put a good shot into the Hawks net to tie the score at one. The third period opened with the Winter Hawks carrying the play. Cambridge picked off an errant Laker pass and scored their second goal of the game. The Winter Hawks then made the score 3-1. At the seven-minute mark Goetz found Alex Peters in the slot and Peters scored the Lakers second goal. With goalie Kent Taylor on the bench for the extra attacker the Lakers had several good scoring chances as they worked hard to tie the score but came up empty and lost 3-2.
Next up for the Major Atoms is a trip to Sarnia on Dec. 9 and a home game in Clinton on Dec. 10 at 3 p.m. against the London Jr. Knights.
