Peter Brierley, 74, of 154 Cobourg St. died at the home of his daughter on Monday. He was born and grew up in Lancashire, England. He spent two years on National Service in the Royal Corps of Signals and soon after demobilizations in 1952 met his wife Pamela. They immigrated to Canada in 1956 and became Canadian citizens in 1967. He joined IBM Canada in 1957 and retired in 1987 to become a professional actor and a member of ACTRA. He studied Shakespeare with Domini Blythe and Neil Freeman and the Shakespeare and Co. in Lenox, Mass. He was a member of the Stratford "Friends of the Festival", primarily as a tour guide at the Festival Theatre and Costume Warehouse. He was a regular contributor to the Noon Hour Book Club at the Stratford Public Library. His lifelong interests included classical music, poetry, painting and the pursuit of the perfect dry martini. He is survived by his wife Pamela, his daughter Julie and her husband Ron Laurie, and his son Simon of Toronto. Joan Lawrence Donaghy of 20 Ash St. died Tuesday at Stratford General Hospital. Born in Chertsey, Surrey, England, she was the daughter of the late Walter and Nellie (Lawrence) Hyde. She had been recognized by the Canadian Red Cross for her contribution of knitted items over the years. In 1993 she was predeceased by her husband Douglas Edward Donaghy. She is survived by her children Christine Nowack and her husband Jack, and Jean Jackson and her husband Dennis all of Stratford and Barry Donaghy and his wife Susan of London. Alistair John Farquhar, 70, died at home Nov. 9 with his family by his side. Born in Crudie, Scotland, he was a son of the late John Farquhar and the former Margaret Fraser. He emigrated from Scotland with his family and farmed in Downie Township and later was a bus driver for the City of Stratford for many years. He was a member of Knox Presbyterian Church. He is survived by his wife Myra (Cruden) Farquhar whom he married in 1954 and by their children Edna Willows and her husband Jeff and Heather Pearn and her husband Jamie. Frances Jean Farquharson, 80, of Cherry Street died Friday at Stratford General Hospital. Born in Milverton, she was a daughter of the late James Scrimgeour and the former Gertrude Pauli. She is survived by her husband Cyrus Farquharson of Stratford and her children Kevin Farquharson and his wife Karen of Sarnia, Kyna Rowbotham and her husband Barry of Oakwood, Karen Roth and her husband Jim of Waterloo, and Kristen MacNeil and her husband Ed of Oakville. Ronald Harry Farr, 73, of Mowat Street, died Nov. 10 at Stratford General Hospital. He was employed with the Ministry of Transportation as an inspector for over 30 years. He was a member and president of the Lakeside Seniors, and was a member of St. Stephen's Anglican Church and the Army, Navy, Air Force Unit 261, Stratford. He was the son of Mima Farr of Stratford and the late William Farr. He is survived by his wife Betty (Coe) Farr and their children Derek Farr and his wife Nancy, and Leanne Cosstick and her husband Rob. A funeral service was held at the W.G. Young Funeral on Monday. Interment in Avondale Cemetery.
Susie Bernice Fischer, 84, of Stratford died Tuesday at Stratford General Hospital. Born in Stratford, she was a daughter of the late Isaac Ackersviller and the former May Huston. She lived most of her life in Gadshill until moving to Stratford. She was a member of St. Peter's Lutheran Church in Gadshill. In 1995 she was predeceased by her husband Carl H. Fischer. She is survived by her children Warren Fischer and his wife Joyce of Tavistock, Ronnie Fischer and his wife Bonnie of Rostock, Paul Fischer of Stratford, and Judy Court and her husband Kenneth of Stratford. Besides her parents and husband she was predeceased by a daughter Lois Ann in infancy. A funeral service was held at the W.G. Young Funeral Home this morning. Interment in Avondale Cemetery.
Joyce Madeline Ellen Hayes, 74, of Spruce Lodge and formerly of Mitchell died at her residence on Nov. 15. She was born in Essex, England, the daughter of the late William and Lottie (Bassett) Smith. She was the wife of Robert (Bob) Charles Hayes. She is survived by her children Victor Smith of Lambeth and Irene Schubert and her husband Heinz of Sauble Beach. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her daughter-in-law Maureen Smith. A funeral service was held today at 2 p.m. at Heinbuck Funeral Home.
Donald Glorian Joseph Poulin died Nov. 9 at Stratford General Hospital. He had worked at Honeywell for 14 years. He is survived by his wife Dianne Marie Poulin and their children Lisa Dianne, Tina Michelle and her friend Tim Flood and Valerie Elva. He was predeceased by his mother Elva Cecile Poulin. There will be a gathering for friends and relatives at the W.G. Young Reception Centre, 430 Huron Street, Stratford on Saturday from 2-4 p.m.
