Help clean up St. Marys

St. Marys Journal Argus

Friday, April 22 is Earth Day, an excellent opportunity to focus on cleaning up our local environment.

St. Marys' Operation Cleanup asks that citizens will take five -- or 30 -- minutes sometime this week to clean up an area around your home or around town. Get a group of your neighbours, friends or family together, clean up a part, a walkway, your yard, or a neighbour's yard. Participants should call Terri-Lynn Fraser at Downtown Pontiac (284-3310) and be eligible for a number of prizes.

And on Saturday, participants are needed for the annual Thames River Clean-Up takes place, starting at the Flats at 9 a.m.

The organizers' goal this year is to have 150 volunteers cleaning 50 km. of river, so they need your help.

Novocraft Canoe in London has donated a canoe to be given away to a lucky volunteer (program wide). It could be someone from St. Marys.

Lunch will be provided by Stonetown Foodland, bottled water to start the day is sponsored by St. Marys valu-Mart. M & M Meat Shop will supply a huge barbecue to cook on, so no waiting for hot dogs and hamburgers when we meet at the Flats for lunch.

Gloves and garbage bags will be supplied - please wear proper foot and outerwear. If it's too rainy, the event will be rescheduled to the will meet the following Saturday, April 30.

It's our home, let's keep it clean!
