OPP briefs – Three car crash on 7/8 sends nine to hospital

Stratford Gazette

On Friday at 6:23 p.m. OPP officers were called to a three-vehicle crash on Highway 7/8 east of Shakespeare.

A Ford Focus and a Pontiac Grand Prix were travelling west just east of Road 106 when they slowed and stopped for a vehicle entering a laneway. The driver of a westbound Saab came upon the two vehicles but was unable to stop in time. The Saab struck the back of the Grand Prix which in turn struck the Focus.

As a result of the impacts, nine of the 10 occupants involved were transported to Stratford General Hospital where they were treated and released.

The female driver of the Saab, a 28-year-old from Perth South, was charged with careless driving.

Break-in at youth centre

On Sunday around 5 a.m. a pedestrian found a broken glass door at the Mitchell Youth Centre on St. Andrew Street. Police investigated and found that once inside the centre, the culprits stole seven Mac computers and caused extensive damage. Anyone with information is asked to contact police at 1-888-310-1122. Should you wish to remain anonymous, call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
