High on the hog

Stratford Gazette

Stratford House of Blessing, along with 40 member food banks in Southwestern Ontario, will be receiving a large donation of fresh, ground pork this March when Ontario Pork donates $45,000 for fresh pork purchasing.

Also announced earlier this month, the Ontario Association of Food Banks (OAFB) will be the recipient of the funds raised by this year’s Hog Jog, an annual all-ages run organized by the Ontario Pork Industry Council in Stratford. Organizers estimate this could result in an additional 135,000 meals available for those in need during the summer months.

“Protein is by far the most needed item by Ontario’s food banks,” says Carolyn Stewart, acting director of the OAFB, “and this could not have come at a better time.”

The Hog Jog, celebrating its 10th anniversary in 2015, will be held the evening of Wednesday June 17.
