The Alzheimer Society of Perth County held its 20th annual Soup’s On at the Rotary Complex Saturday, Jan. 17.
After two decades, people still enjoy going and participating.
“I love it, we have not missed a Soup’s On since as long as I can remember,” said Karen Elliott, one of the hundreds of people who came in from the cold to enjoy savoury samples from many of the 50 soups offered up by 35 Perth County organizations throughout the day.
One of those participants was Bard’s on Marketplace, a first-time vendor. Manager and chef, Andrew Tutt, said he had been looking forward to the event for quite some time and wasn’t disappointed, even if his new restaurant didn’t find itself on the awards list at the end of the day.
“It’s fantastic, a great turnout,” he added. “It’s not about the winning, it’s about generosity, team spirit.”
In addition to the soup, there was a silent auction with a total of 200 donations from businesses around Perth County.
The event raised more than last year’s total of $43,000, although a total was not known as of press time. The funds go towards Alzheimer Society programs and services.
“Most successful one ever,” said a smiling Debbie Deichert, executive director of the Alzheimer Society on Saturday while reflecting on the event’s continued success.
“When you have a successful event, there’s no need to change,” she added.
