Soup lovers take note: The Alzheimer Society of Perth County will host its 20th annual Soup’s On fundraiser this Saturday, January 17 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Rotary Complex.
Chefs across Perth County are pulling out closely guarded recipes, hoping their entry will win the hearts of soup lovers.
This event packs the Rotary Complex every January with people eager to sample some 50 soups offered by more than 35 chefs, both pro and amateur.
Prizes are awarded for various kinds of soup, such as cream, vegetarian and hearty. The most coveted prize, though, is the People’s Choice Award.
To celebrate the 20th anniversary and adding to the thrill of competition, soup vendors have been encouraged to decorate their booth with a prize being awarded for the Best Decorated Booth.
While soup is the main attraction, it’s not the only one.
“This year we have almost 200 silent auction items. We are overwhelmed by the generosity of our community” says Debbie Deichert, executive director of the Alzheimer Society.
Silent auction items include: Happy Days Houseboat rental; Via Rail tickets; an overnight getaway to Niagara with a private wine tasting, and tickets to the Shaw Festival; as well as many other unique items.
Soup’s On is the major fundraising event for the Alzheimer Society.
“It is touching to know that Soup’s On has become a true community event people are proud to support and look forward to year after year, while still attracting newcomers from far and wide,” says Deichert.
