Getting in the Christmas spirit

St. Marys Journal Argus

The annual Kinsmen Santa Claus Parade gets underway at 7 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 14, beginning at the Pyramid Centre, travelling along James Street to Queen Street, then turning west and continuing through downtown.

As is the tradition, following the conclusion of the parade, the festive lighting display in Milt Dunnell Field (The Flats) will be officially switched on. Residents and guests will subsequently be able to enjoy the lighting display on weekend evenings from now until the New Year.

Also in keeping with tradition, various organizations and businesses will be making extra efforts during Friday’s parade to help those in need.

The Salvation Army will be collecting food along the route for its annual Christmas Hamper program. They’ll be helped in this effort by members of the St. Marys Lions Club — who’ll also be collecting used but still functional eyeglasses for donation to a program that delivers them to developing world nations.

If you have a non-perishable food item or items to donate, please place them in a bag to make it easier for those collecting the food.

Also, representatives from Canada Post will be collecting letters to Santa.
