Garden fest a national winner

Stratford Gazette

The Stratford Garden Festival, a fundraiser for the Ontario Lung Association, was named Festival of the Year at the recent 2014 Canadian Garden Tourism Awards.

Garden Tourism Awards are presented to organizations and individuals who have distinguished themselves in the development and promotion of the garden experience as a tourism attraction. Now presented annually, the awards – the only such program in the world – were given out in 2011.

“This award is truly an honour," said area manager of the Huron-Perth chapter of the Lung Association, in a press release. "It is a wonderful acknowledgment of the hard work, creativity and commitment on the part of so many people who have helped the Stratford Garden Festival grow and thrive.

"The support of the landscape community, our unique exhibitors, our generous sponsors, the local business community and, of course, our amazing volunteers all have contributed to the success of this event."

The Stratford Garden Festival features gardens, a marketplace showcasing the latest must haves for the gardener, a speaker series featuring the top garden gurus in the province, and a number of special events.  It draws approximately 8,500 people from across southern Ontario each year.  Monies raised from the event support lung  health initiatives and research.

Next year will mark the 15th year of the event, and will take place March 5-8.
