Morris Purcell

Mr. Morris Roy Purcell passed away at his home in Gowanstown, surrounded by his family, on Tuesday, Aug. 5, 2014 at the age of 81.

Beloved husband of Ina (Elliott) Purcell. Father of Jean and Bill Cook of Newton, Barbara and Brad Erb of Millbank, Karen and Robert Laidlaw of RR 2 Listowel, Douglas and Debbie Purcell of Newton, and Rob Purcell of Harriston. Grandfather of 12 and great-grandfather of 12.

Brother of Harry Purcell of Listowel, and brother-in-law of Paul Bristowe of Listowel, Helen Cullen of Listowel, Joyce and Bill Turcotte of Kitchener, and Pat Elliott of Hanover. Predeceased by his sister Ruth Bristowe, and brothers and sisters-in-law Vola Purcell, Burt and Jean Elliott, Jim and Esther Elliott, Blanche and Cecil McNichol, Don Elliott, and Alex Cullen.

Visitation was held at the Eaton Funeral Home, Listowel on Friday, Aug. 8 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m.

The funeral service was held at Trinity United Church, Listowel on Saturday, Aug. 9 at 1 p.m. Interment in Fairview Cemetery, Listowel.

Carl Wicke

Mr. Carl John Wicke of Listowel passed away, with his children at his side, on Monday, Aug. 11, 2014 at the age of 92.

Beloved husband of the late Dorothy Wicke. Father of Ruth Ann and Dean Hurst of Brantford, and Robert and Trish Wicke of Kitchener. Grandfather of Geoffrey Hurst, Laura Hurst, Erin Wicke and Lindsay Wicke.

Brother-in-law of Ken and Eileen Field of Cambridge, Marjorie Klinck of Napanee, Russell and Jean Field of Clifford, Ruth and Merv Beisel of Waterloo, and Claude and Elaine Field of Clifford.

Predeceased by his sisters Marie Garland and Elviretta Yost.

Carl served with the South Alberta Regiment. He was the commander of a tank when he entered Europe in 1944. In 1945, he was wounded and was recovering in England when the war ended. Carl returned home to marry Dorothy Field. They settled in Listowel where he found joy in his work as a carpenter.

Carl continued to serve his community as a councillor, deputy reeve and reeve, building inspector for Elma and Wallace Township, town superintendent, and later as the president of the Listowel Legion. He was the mayor of Listowel during the Centennial Year in 1967. He was a dedicated and active member of Calvary United Church in Listowel where he held every position but minister. But most importantly, he was a husband, father, and grandfather.

Visitation will be held at the Eaton Funeral Home, Listowel on Wednesday, Aug. 13 from 5-8 p.m. with a Legion Memorial Service at 8 p.m. The funeral service will be held at Calvary United Church, Listowel on Thursday, Aug. 14 at 11 a.m. Interment in Fairview Cemetery, Listowel.

Memorial donations to the Listowel Memorial Hospital Foundation or Crohn’s and Colitis Foundation would be appreciated.

Gary Morrison

Gary Morrison of RR 3 Brussels passed away, surrounded by his family, at his residence on Friday, Aug. 8, 2014. Born in Evansville, Manitoulin Island on May 22, 1942, Gary was 72.

Gary was the beloved husband of 53 years to Marion (Wood). Dear father of Larry and Cindy Morrison of Atwood, Bill and Vanessa Morrison of Monkton, Diane Willis and Jeff Werth of Kitchener, and Darryl and Glenda Morrison of Brussels. Loving grandfather of Felicia and Mike, Travis, Denver, Colton, Shelby and Mike, Keegan and Julia, Brianna, Jackson, Bryden, Amanda, and Justin; and great-grandfather of Caedon, Keian, Dominick and Liam.

Dear stepson of Geraldine Robinson of Espanola, and brother to Judy and Garry Middaugh of Evansville, Jim and Bonnie Robinson of Val Caron, Jack and Darlene Robinson of Massey, Janice and Don Kutschke of Massey, Jeff and Doris Robinson of Massey, Cathy and Bill Gibson of Peterborough and Linda and Jerry Roy of New Brunswick. Dear brother-in-law to Jack and Betty Wood of Sheguiandah, Ron and Judy Wood of Sheguiandah, Lawrence and Kathy Wood of Ingersoll, Myrna and Terry Aelick of Little Current, Ivan and Donna Wood of Brantford, and Bruce and Pat Wood of Sheguiandah. Also loved by his many nieces and nephews.

Predeceased by his son Kevin (1968), father Robert Robinson (1989), mother Phyllis Johnston (2012) and stepfather Alf Johnston (2010).

Friends were received by the family at the Schimanski Family Funeral Home, Brussels on Sunday, Aug. 10 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. The funeral service was conducted at Knox Presbyterian Church, Monkton on Monday, Aug. 11 at 11 a.m. officiated by Rev. Theresa McDonald-Lee. Interment in Cranbrook Cemetery, Huron East.

Salvatore “Sam” Cadeddu

Salvatore (Sam) Cadeddu of Atwood, passed away at Listowel Memorial Hospital on Wednesday, Aug. 6, 2014 at the age of 74.

Sam immigrated to Canada with his wife Theresia in 1979. He worked as a cheese maker at Atwood Cheese Factory for over 25 years.

Beloved husband of Theresia (Freeman) Cadeddu, whom he married in 1966.

There will be no visitation or funeral service. Cremation has taken place.

As expressions of sympathy, memorial donations to St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, Listowel appreciated.

Bill McClelland

Mr. William John McClelland of Listowel passed away at Caressant Care on Tuesday, Aug. 5, 2014 at the age of 93.

Beloved husband of the late Frances (Bellchamber) McClelland. Dear father of Joe McClelland and Doris of Walton, Cathy Poirier and Lou of Gorrie, John McClelland and Carol of Bolton, and Ellie Sanderson of Bancroft.

Grandfather of Mark McClelland and Carole of Whitechurch, Lou Poirier of Brussels, Dan Poirier and Bridget of Walton, Jeff Poirier and Shari of Listowel, Jim Sanderson and Julie of Sarnia, and Jeannine Sanderson-Phenis and TJ of Union City, Ohio. Great-grandfather of Dylan, Jacy, Avery, Samantha, Torrance, Dakota, Brandon, Dustin, Josie, Kelsie and Jamie, Zack, Emma Jo, Tre, and Shaylen, and great-great-grandfather of Owen and Abby.

Predeceased by his parents Harold and Minnie (Peardon) McClelland, daughter-in-law Sheila McClelland, and grandsons William and David Sanderson.

Visitation was held on Thursday, Aug. 7 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at the Eaton Funeral Home, Listowel where the funeral service was held on Friday, Aug. 8 at 11 a.m.  Interment in Fairview Cemetery, Listowel.

Memorial donations to the Canadian Diabetes Association or Canadian Cancer Society would be appreciated.

Donalda Graham

Donalda Barbara Margaret Elizabeth Graham, a resident of Fordwich Village Nursing Home and formerly of Gorrie, passed away at Fordwich Village Nursing Home on Tuesday, July 29, 2014 at the age of 89.

The former Donalda McKenzie, beloved wife of the late Alexander Graham who predeceased her in 1991.

Loving mother and mother-in-law of James Graham and Don Mader of Waterloo, Neil “Ted” and Julie Graham of Perth, Donald and Cathy Graham of Kitchener, Patti Graham of Listowel and William “Bil” and Sonya Graham of Gorrie. Missed by nine grandchildren and two great-grandsons.

Fondly remembered by her brother James and Bonnie McKenzie of Tillsonburg, sister-in-law Lil Graham of Cobourg and many nieces and nephews.

Predeceased by her son Tom Graham (2008), sister Jean Huctwith and parents, James and Jennie (Mann) McKenzie.

Donalda’s life was centred around her family and community.

Her involvement in the Legion Ladies Auxiliary, Knox Presbyterian Church and life membership in the Women’s Institute brought her much joy and many friendships.

A memorial visitation to honour Donalda’s life will take place at the Gorrie Community Hall on Saturday, Aug. 23 from 2-4 p.m. Inurnment in Gorrie Cemetery.

Memorial donations to the Alex and Donalda Graham Scholarship Fund at Howick Central School (cheques payable to the “Avon-Maitland D.S.B.”) would be appreciated as expressions of sympathy and can be arranged through the Tiffin Funeral Home, Teeswater.
