The Heart and Stroke Foundation will be holding its fourth annual Sydney Evans Memorial Run on Wednesday, Aug. 13.
This family friendly event has become a community tradition in Stratford, raising funds for lifesaving heart disease and stroke research. This year the goal is $20,000.
The 3.5 km or 8 km run or walk will be held in memory of Sydney Evans, of Stratford, who died suddenly at two years of age due to an undetected cardiomyopathy. Her parents Michelle and Dwayne, as well as big brother Eric and baby sister Aubrey, are thrilled to have the event held in her memory.
The fun run will start at the Packham Road Sports Complex at 6:30 p.m., with registration opening at 5:30 p.m.
Participants are urged to collect donations online at www.fitforheart.ca or by picking up a pledge form at the Festival Marketplace mall information booth, at Runners Wall, Vancea Financial, or the Heart and Stroke Foundation office. All funds raised by participants will be donated to the Heart and Stroke Foundation in memory of Evans.
Participants and spectators are encouraged to gather after the run for food, fun and refreshments. There will be a silent auction, music, entertainment and face painting for the youngest supporters.
Heart disease and stroke continue to be the leading cause of death among Canadians. With donor support, the Heart and Stroke Foundation funds world-class research.
