'Tis the budget season

St. Marys Journal Argus

Dear Editor:

It seems this is the season when local government departments are asked to present their wish list for the 2014 budget.

I suggest that the same opportunity apply to those who pay the bills — the taxpayers. Therefore, why does the Council and administration not invite citizens to submit their wishes?

It could be informative if done in a serious way, especially if the local media are allowed to publish some of them. Following are some suggestions:

1. The Grand Trunk walkway be painted and repaired where needed;

2. A snowfence be installed along the vacant field on the west side of James Street North;

3. A 10-year plan be adopted to buy more hydro lines. (Does the PUC fund still exist)

Who knows? It could be an annual event and make St. Marys even more worth living in.

Best wishes for all your deliberations in 2014.

Sincerely,

John O’Drowsky
