Ettie McNichol

Mrs. Ettie Margaret (Loree) McNichol of Listowel passed away at Caressant Care on Thursday, Dec. 5, 2013 at the age of 94.

Beloved wife of the late Cameron McNichol. Dear mother of Carol McNichol of Listowel and the late Douglas McNichol. Mother-in-law of Joan McNichol.  Cherished grandmother of Jamie (Riley), Joseph, and John, and 11 great-grandchildren.

Sister-in-law of Marion Loree and Betty Hampton. Remembered by her nieces and nephews.

Predeceased by her sisters Frances Trewin-Frey and Jesse Loree, and her brothers George, Earl and David Loree.

Visitation was on Sunday, Dec. 8 from 2-4 p.m. at the Eaton Funeral Home, Listowel where the funeral service was held on Monday, Dec. 9 at 11 a.m. Interment in Fairview Cemetery, Listowel.

Allan Kipfer

Suddenly at home, on Monday, Dec. 9, 2013, Mr. Gordon Allan Kipfer of Gowanstown, in his 76th year.

Beloved husband of Janet (Rogers) Kipfer. Father of Jennifer Kipfer of Brampton, and Andrew Kipfer and Lisa Demarte of Waterloo.

Brother of Jack and Gloria Kipfer, and Sharon and Jim Stephen, and brother-in-law of Enid Rogers, all of Waterloo. Remembered also by his cousins, nieces, and nephews.

While attending Waterloo University-College, Al joined the ROTC, serving in the Scott Fusiliers in Kitchener and the Highland Fusiliers in Galt. After moving to Listowel in 1965, he joined the 21st Field Regiment where he obtained the rank of Captain. While teaching at Listowel District Secondary School for over 30 years, Al volunteered with the Cadet Corp at Norwell D.S.S.

Allan and Janet were faithful church and choir members at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church. They enjoyed their many travels in Europe and, being a dedicated geography teacher, Al was especially proud to have visited every Canadian province and territory, as well as every American state.

Visitation will be held at the Eaton Funeral Home, Listowel on Wednesday, Dec. 11 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. The funeral service will be held at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Listowel, on Thursday, Dec. 12 at 11 a.m.  Interment in Memory Gardens, Breslau.

Memorial donations to St. Paul’s Lutheran Church or the Listowel Memorial Hospital Foundation would be appreciated.

Delmer Roth

Delmer (Del) Roth of RR1 Listowel passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his loving family, after a lengthy battle with cancer, on Friday, Dec. 6, 2013 at the age of 72. Del was a member of Listowel Evangelical Missionary Church. His favourite pastime was spending time at the lake fishing.

Beloved husband of Nelda, whom he married in 1961. Loving father of Cindy and Cliff Elliott, Dan and Elaine Roth all of Listowel, Laurie and Paul Brink of RR1 Listowel and Darcy Roth and partner Missy of Stratford.

Cherished papa of Chris and Jon Frey, Carolyn and Stephen Marles, Andy and Sarah Elliott, Kelsey Roth, Kyle and Caleigh Roth, Tanya and Luke Slotegraaf, Amanda and Aaron Foell, Tyler Roth, Ryan Roth, Jaime Roth and Brady Roth. Missed by his great-grandchildren Emma, Leah, Mac, Braya, Kole, Khloe, Myles, Kaighlynn, Bryce, Jaxon, Zander, Zachary, Riley and Noah.

Dear brother of Gladys and Reinhardt Ohnsorge of Stratford, Dorothy and Howard Burkholder of Edmonton, Barb and Dwight Wratchford of Pennsylvania, Mervin and Marjorie Roth of New Hamburg, Doug Roth of Hickson, Richard and Diane Roth of Bright. Fondly remembered by brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law Shirley and Herb Wagler of Tavistock, Mayne and Brenda Roth of Fordwich, Ervin and Marie Roth of Harriston, Ed and Wanda Roth of Gorrie, Dianne Rellinger of Listowel and many nieces and nephews.

Predeceased by his parents Christian and Pricilla (Kropf) Roth, parents-in-law Almon and Annie Mae Roth, brother Laverne Roth, sister-in-law Diane Roth, brothers-in-law Bill Knoblauch and Alex Henry.

Relatives and friends were invited to share their memories on Sunday, Dec. 8 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at Listowel Evangelical Missionary Church, Listowel, where the funeral service to celebrate Del’s life was held on Monday, Dec. 9 at 2 p.m. with Pastor Jeff Wood officiating.  Interment in Fairview Cemetery, Listowel.

As expressions of sympathy, memorial donations to the Canadian Cancer Society or Listowel Evangelical Missionary Church appreciated by the family.

Patricia Jacobson

Patricia Ann (nee Dorscht) Jacobson passed away on Monday, Dec. 9, 2013 at the Wellington Terrace Long Term Care Facility.

Patti is survived by her husband Kurt Jacobson. Her parents Harold and Jessie Dorscht of Elora, and mother-in-law Dorothy Jacobson. Also her sisters Karen (Anthony) Mungal and Pamela (Todd) Roth and her nephew Dylan Roth. Patti will also be remembered by her brothers-in-laws Gary (Pat), Al (Becky) and Vernon (Velma) and David (Connie) Jacobson and sister-in-law Bev (Bill) Demerling all of the Fordwich area.

Patti travelled extensively. She loved farming, her dogs and music. She played several instruments, including the accordion. She had the honour of performing for Dr. Charles Best, co- discoverer of insulin.

Cremation has taken place; a memorial service for Patti will take place at a later date.

Neil Helmka

Mr. Neil Alexander Helmka of Listowel passed away at Listowel Memorial Hospital on Thursday, Dec. 5, 2013 at the age of 88.

Beloved husband of Madeline (Schiestel) Helmka. Father of Murray and Sherri Helmka, Ken and Juanita Helmka, and Wayne and Ruth Helmka, all of Listowel, and Jo-Ann and Doug Gilkinson of Owen Sound.

Grandfather of Ken Jr. and Tawnya Helmka of Palmerston, Jody and Pat Ash of Fordwich, Jeff and Laurie Gilkinson, Russell and Shelly Gilkinson, Rod and Jen Gilkinson, and Mark Gilkinson, all of Owen Sound, Christa and Paul Arsenault of New Hamburg, and Craig Helmka and his friend Joelle Maheux of St. Jerome, Quebec. Great-grandfather of Ryan, Brandon, Kyle, Cassandra, Meghan, Kate, Jess, Tristan, Carter, Cooper, Alice and Eric.

Predeceased by his sisters Leona Clark, Nelda O’Grady, Jean Eckel, Grace Hube, Eunice Arthur, May Dean and Isabel Turney, and by his brothers Bill and Robert.

Neil proudly served his country during the Second World War as a gunner on the HMCS Cape Breton.

Visitation was held at the Eaton Funeral Home, Listowel on Saturday, Dec. 7 from 10 a.m. until the time of the funeral service at 11 a.m.  A Legion Memorial Service will be held at 9:30 a.m. Interment in Fairview Cemetery, Listowel.

Memorial donations to Cystic Fibrosis would be appreciated.
