Town should fund Winterlights

St. Marys Journal Argus

Dear Editor:

With regards to last week’s article “Winterlights likely to need more sponsors” (St. Marys Journal Argus, Nov. 30): It is my understanding when the Winterlights project was first initiated, a number of businesses and individuals graciously donated the wonderful displays to this yuletide project with the understanding that annual financial support may be needed. Unfortunately this has not happened the last few years and the town has covered the majority, if not all, of the $25,000 annual cost to operate.

It’s great the town was able to raise $6,500 this year but I suggest that, regardless of donations received annually, the project be continued. The annual cost to run the project, paid by the taxpayers of this town regardless, should be included in our annual budget. It’s a project all residents can enjoy, as well as the many visitors we hope are supporting our local businesses while they are here.

Just one person’s opinion, but I am sure it is shared by others.

Sincerely,

Terri Finnie
