Alvin Grainger

William Alvin Grainger of Gorrie passed away on Saturday, March 2, 2013 at Listowel Memorial Hospital. Born in Howick Township on Jan. 11, 1934, Alvin was 79.

Beloved husband of Eleanore (Stephens) Grainger. Dear father of Michael and wife Diane of Waterloo, Murray and wife Donna of Tavistock, Marilyn and husband Wayne Williams of Wallace Township and Gary and wife Kathy of Neustadt.

Also loved by grandchildren Bronwen, Devon, Morgan, Chris, Craig, Erin, Chet, Drew, Evan, Tara, Katrina and Graham, and by his five great-grandchildren.

Survived by his brothers Bruce of Montreal, Bob and Karol of Kitchener, and sister Ruth and Ian of Nepean and by his sister-in-law Evelyn-Anne and Wayne Stevens of Port Elgin.

Predeceased by his parents Cecil and Janet of Gorrie and his brother Jackie.

His life will be celebrated on Saturday, March 9 at 2 p.m. at Gorrie United Church with Rev. Jeff Hawkins officiating. Cremation with interment in Gorrie Cemetery.

As expressions of sympathy, memorial donations may be made to Gorrie United Church, Listowel Memorial Hospital or a charity of one’s choice.

Allan Streicher

Allan Streicher passed away on Saturday, March 2, 2013 at Listowel Memorial Hospital, surrounded by his family. Allan resided and had farmed at RR 1 Newton. He was born 71 years ago in Mornington Township and was the son of the late Aaron and Katie (Kuepfer) Streicher.

Beloved husband of Viola (Kuepfer) Streicher, whom he married May 5, 1964. Loving father of Ernest and Karen Streicher of RR 1 Newton, Darlene and Gerald Kuepfer of RR 1 Brunner, Emmaline and Edgar Wagler of Newton, Ervin and Cindy Streicher of RR 1 Newton, and Joseph and Mary Streicher of Milverton.

Sadly missed by his grandchildren Lynette and Andrew Jantzi, Trevor, Darren, Ross, Rosalynn and fiancé Benjamin Jantzi, Travis, Katelynn, Tyson, Curtis, Dylan, Lanelle, Kayla and friend Eric, Cory, Dustin and friend Tessa and Devon.

Remembered by his stepmother Sarah Streicher of RR 1 Newton; brothers and sisters Joe and Ann Streicher of St. Jacobs, Ivan and Mary Ann Streicher of RR 4 Listowel, Maryann and Levi Jantzi, Steven and Mary Edith Streicher all of RR 1 Newton, and Fannie Streicher of RR 1 Milverton; brother-in-law Emerson Kuepfer of Stratford and many nieces and nephews.

Allan was a member of Morningview Amish Mennonite Church, RR 1 Newton.

Family and friends called at the Mark Jutzi Funeral Home, Milverton on Monday, March 4 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. The funeral service took place on Tuesday, March 5 at 1 p.m. at Morningveiw Amish Mennonite Church, with Bishop Kenneth Kuepfer officiating. Interment to follow in the church cemetery.

As expressions of sympathy, donations may be made to Christian Aid Ministries or the Mennonite Central Committee.

Betty Jones

Mary Elizabeth (Betty) Jones (nee Binning) passed away peacefully on Friday, Feb. 22, 2013 at the age of 92.

Beloved wife for 73 years of William Jones (Bill). Loving mother of Patricia, Thomas and James (deceased 2010). Proud grandmother of Karen, Michael, David and Debbie.  Loving sister of Robert Binning (Bob, deceased).

In keeping with her wishes, cremation has taken place. Interment will be held in Listowel at a later date.

Dorothy Hammond

Mrs. Mildred Dorothy (Mewhiney) Hammond of Listowel passed away at Listowel Memorial Hospital on Monday, Feb. 25, 2013 at the age of 92.

Beloved wife of the late Bernie Hammond, who predeceased her in 2006. Dear mother of Barry and Isabella Hammond of Switzerland, Donald and Lisa Hammond of Oakville, and Anne Hammond of Kitchener. Grandmother of Colin, Sarah and Laura Hammond.

Dorothy was a nurse for many years at the Listowel Memorial Hospital as well as Midwestern Regional Centre.

Visitation was held at the Eaton Funeral Home, Listowel, on Saturday, March 2 from 1 p.m. until the time of the memorial service at 2 p.m. Interment in Fairview Cemetery, Listowel.

Memorial donations to Listowel Memorial Hospital Foundation would be appreciated.
