House of Blessing gets funding for kids' snacks

Stratford Gazette

The House of Blessing has received a $2,600 grant to create Kids Zone – a program that provides fresh produce and non-perishable foods recommended by Eat Right Ontario for children whose family accesses the food bank.

The funding is through the Rural Kids Grant program and is provided through a partnership with the Ontario Association of Food Banks and the Grocery Foundation.

When parents visit the House of Blessing food bank they are provided with school snacks such as granola bars, fruit cups and drinking boxes for their children.

The new Kids Zone will provide an additional resource for proper nutrition with healthy snacks like apples, bananas, oranges, yogurt, cheese, dried fruit and applesauce.

In 2012, the House of Blessing provided food for 5,614 people, over 1,800 of whom were children.
