New awareness campaign aims to boost volunteerism

Stratford Gazette

To coincide with the marking of International Volunteer Day December 5, Volunteers in Perth (VIP) is launching a major awareness and recruitment campaign titled “Who Knew?”

Over the next 32 months, the campaign will present the reflections of community volunteers. Because they volunteer they can share their story on what they have come to learn and experience.

“Volunteers in Perth is excited to have an opportunity to share the profiles of incredibly gifted volunteers who are a natural extension of our organization’s work,” says VIP co-chair Tracy Aylward. “They are unseen heroes that breathe life into our community through their tireless efforts to give of their time and talents.

“It is such an honour to bring a focus to these highly appreciated individuals.”

Some of these personal stories are profound; while others are heart-warming, but what is common to all is that the rewards of volunteering can be very special and unexpected.

The objective of the campaign is the hope that these first-hand accounts will resonate with people who aren’t presently volunteering and lead them to volunteer action in whatever form that might take.

Beginning this week, and over the next 32 months, a different member agency volunteer will be featured in stories in and around the community.
