New beginnings

Stratford Gazette

Saturday was collection day for the Stratford Basketeers, a voluntary program that assists women living in shelters and centres in the community.

Organizers anticipated approximately 80 completed baskets – each one filled to the brim with bath and beauty products, kitchen accessories, toiletries and other useful items – would be dropped off at the Stratford Christian Reformed Church before the afternoon deadline.

The baskets were to be picked up and delivered to the Emily Murphy Centre, Huron Women's Shelter and Optimism Place.

"It's heartfelt to see," said Judith Sept, coordinator for the Stratford chapter of the Basketeers program, about the response. "We're always grateful."

Helping unload baskets were students from Stratford Central, and local firefighters assisted with delivering the baskets.
