Hoop-ing for a record

Stratford Gazette

There was a lot of basketball being played in the lobby of the Stratford-Perth Family YMCA Saturday.

The local organization attempted to help set a world record for most people throwing basketballs during one event in one day. Thousands of YMCAs participated across five continents, beginning in New Zealand and ending in Hawaii. The goal was for five million people to participate.

The event, the results of which likely won't be known for a couple of months, was meant to celebrate not only the fact that basketball was created in the YMCA in 1890, but the work the organization does with kids worldwide.
