Bertha Brooks

Bertha Adelaide Brooks, age 90, passed away peacefully at Spruce Lodge, Stratford on Thursday, Sept. 20, 2012.

Bertha was born in York County, Ontario, daughter of the late Arthur and Jennie Snyder. She was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion Br. 180, Wingham, the Downie Community Club and Knox Presbyterian Church, Stratford.

Beloved wife of the late George Arthur Brooks, who predeceased her on May 18, 1995. Loving mother of Joan Darling (Jim), Robert (Sharon), Wray (Nancy), Georgina Reid (Gerald), Don (Jackie), Bryon (Marj), Jim (Nancy), Audrey Fitzgerald (Jamie), Ken (Janice) and Len (Di).

Lovingly remembered by many grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. Also survived by a daughter-in-law Lynn Brooks (Doug) and son-in-law Stan Schade.

Besides her parents and husband, she was predeceased by a son Larry, daughter Reta Schade, grandsons Douglas Darling and Mark Brooks, and granddaughter Kim Brooks.

Friends and relatives called at the W.G. Young Funeral Home, Stratford on Sunday Sept. 23 from 2-5 p.m. The funeral service was held at the funeral home on Monday, Sept. 24 at 11 a.m. with reception following. Rev. Dr. Bryan Lapier officiated. Interment in Wingham Cemetery.

As expressions of sympathy, memorial donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or the Canadian Cancer Society through the funeral home. 519-271-7411.

Pons Tinholt

Mr. Poncio Wouterse Tinholt of Listowel went home to be with his Lord and Saviour, at Caressant Care, Listowel on Wednesday, Sept. 19, 2012 at the age of 75.

Father of Ben Tinholt of Rockwood. Brother of Corrie van Oostveen of Listowel, Bill and Wilma Tinholt of Listowel, John and Jeanne Tinholt of Winnipeg, Walter and Hennie Tinholt of Moorefield, A. John Tinholt of Waterloo and Josie (Reinders) Tinholt of Waterloo, and Adriana and Gordon Klaassen of Drayton. Also surviving are many nieces and nephews.

Mr. Tinholt was predeceased by his parents Johannes and Adriana (Hoogendoorn) Tinholt, his sister Willy van Leeuwen, a brother in infancy, as well as brothers-in-law Dick van Leeuwen and Kees van Oostveen.

Visitation will be held at the Eaton Funeral Home, Listowel on Sunday, Sept. 23 from 1-5 p.m. The interment service will take place on Monday, Sept. 24 in Fairview Cemetery at 10 a.m., followed by the memorial service and reception at Listowel Pentecostal Church at 1:30 p.m.

Memorial donations to Christian Blind Mission would be appreciated.

Violet Archer

Violet M. Archer (Kennedy) (nee Salter) of Woodingford Lodge, Woodstock passed away peacefully at her residence on Sunday, Sept. 23, 2012 at the age of 89.

Beloved wife of the late Robert C. Archer (2000) and the late E. Reid Kennedy (1971). Dear mother of Fern Fleming and her husband Rob of Copper Cliff and Donald Kennedy of Woodstock, stepmother to Ron Archer of Beachville and Larry Archer and his wife Sheila of Woodstock, and mother-in-law to Joyce Archer of Stoney Plain, Alberta. Loved grandmother of several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Dear sister of Bill Salter and Jim Salter, both of Listowel.

Predeceased by her sister Ruby Hurst (Ross), stepson Wayne Archer and daughter-in-law Marie Archer.

Violet was a longtime member of the Knox Presbyterian Church, Woodstock where she had also volunteered many hours with the various ladies groups of the church.

Friends are invited to join the family at the Brock and Visser Funeral Home, 845 Devonshire Ave., Woodstock 519-539-0004 on Wednesday, Sept. 26 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. The funeral service will held at Knox Presbyterian Church, 59 Riddell St., Woodstock on Thursday, Sept. 27 at 11 a.m. with Rev. Mark McLennan officiating. Interment in Fairview Cemetery, Listowel.

Louella Raynard

Louella Irene (Stevenson) Raynard, (formerly of Ethel) passed away at Huronlea Home for the Aged on Friday, Sept. 21, 2012. Born in Elliotts, Prince Edward Island on Oct. 14, 1921, Louella was 90. She was a long-time employee of Campbell Soup.

Louella was the beloved wife of 60 years to Cecil Raynard of Brussels and will be sadly missed by her children Linda and Doug Davidson of Sarnia, Shirley Bremner of London and Irene Raynard of Midland.

Dear sister of Shirley and Balfour Reid of Summerside and Audrey MacKay of Charlottetown. Loving grandmother of Blair Davidson, Becky Davidson and Peter Bosch, Chris Bremner and Lee Hoskins, Jennifer Forget and Jeremy Forget and great-grandmother of Rylin, Quinn, Everett, Lily and Ethan. Also loved by her special friends Lindsay and Lorne Stewart of Ethel.

Predeceased by her parents Sadie and Andrew Stevenson, three sisters and two brothers.

A private funeral service was conducted at the Schimanski Family Funeral Home on Monday, Sept. 24, officiated by Pastor Sandra Cable. Carrying floral tributes were Becky Davidson, Lee Hoskins and Jennifer Forget. Pallbearers were Blair Davidson, Peter Bosch, Chris Bremner and Jeremy Forget. Burial took place in Mount Pleasant Cemetery, Ethel.

As expressions of sympathy, memorial donations to the Alzheimer's Society of Huron would be appreciated by the family.

Dorothy Carey

Dorothy Carey passed away at Lanark Heights Long Term Care Centre, Kitchener on Sunday, Sept. 23, 2012 at the age of 97.

Loving wife of the late Edward. Beloved mother of William and his wife Diane Carey and Danny and his partner Long Ngo “Michael.”

Dorothy and Edward owned and operated Carey’s Restaurant for 24 years.

Family and friends will be received at Robert Ruggle Funeral Home, 617 King St. N., Waterloo, on Saturday, Sept. 29 from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. for memorial visitation. A celebration of Dorothy’s life will immediately follow in the funeral home chapel at 1 p.m. Cremation has taken place.
