Straight to the heart

Stratford Gazette

Promoted this year as "The Most Spectacular Chili Cookoff on Earth," Saturday's well-attended fundraiser for the Heart & Stroke Foundation lived up to its billing.

Thirty-nine organizations and groups participated in the Orr Insurance Heartburn Day at the Rotary Complex, serving up a wide menu of chili samplers for the public.

Entertainment was provided by local pop/rock band Upside of Maybe and Bogle the Clown. There were also a large silent auction and 50/50 draw for the adults and games and activities for kids.

In total, the event raised $30,000 for Heart & Stroke research, health promotion, and advocacy.

The People's Choice award for best chili went to Sunlife Financial, while the Kids' Choice went to Molly Bloom's, which also took home the award for Best Display for its circus sideshow motif. Other chili award winners included the Annex Room (Best Restaurant), Hillside Manor (Best Business), and Celebrate Recovery (Best Service Group).
