Mary Ann Benoit

Mrs. Mary Ann (Pasztor) Benoit of Wroxeter passed away at Wingham & District Hospital on Sunday, Dec. 29, 2013 at the age of 55.

Loving wife of Daniel Benoit of Wroxeter. Dear mother of Jennifer Benoit and Steve Williston of Listowel and Jessica and Codi Micklethwaite of North Bay.  Proud grandmother of Chase, Jasper and Xavier.

Remembered by her brother Zoltan Pasztor of Sardis, B.C. Sister-in-law of Andre and Anna Benoit of Edmonton, Francine and Pierre Larkin of Alymer, Quebec, Chantal Benoit and Alain Roy of Sherbrooke, Quebec, and Serge Benoit and Johanne of Sherbrooke, Quebec.

Predeceased by her parents Peter and Maria Pasztor, her sister Erika Ryan, and brothers Jimmy and James in infancy.

Visitation was held on Thursday, Jan. 2 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at the Eaton Funeral Home, Listowel where the funeral service was held on Friday, Jan. 3 at 11 a.m. Cremation to follow.

Wes Bender

Mr. Wesley Alexander Bender of RR 1 Atwood at Listowel Memorial Hospital on Friday, Jan. 3, 2014 at the age of 93.

Beloved husband of the late Beatrice Bender. Father of Keith Bender of Listowel, Sharon and Murray Gerth of Kitchener, Allan and Eloise Bender of Kitchener, Lyle Bender of Monkton, Dale Bender of Hanover, and Sherryl and Don Wilson of Mildmay. He will be remembered by his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Brother-in-law of Carol Gilmore of Gowanstown, Howard and Irma Hood of Newmarket, Elva Reichard of Gorrie, and Helen Illing of Guelph.

Predeceased by his daughter-in-law Joyce Bender, grandson Brian Bender, great-granddaughter Tammy Alexander, and brothers Irvin and Glen Bender.

Visitation was held at the Eaton Funeral Home, Listowel on Monday, Jan. 6 from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. The funeral service was held at First Baptist Church, Listowel on Tuesday, Jan. 7 at 11 a.m. Interment in Zion United Church Cemetery, Wallace Township.

Memorial donations to First Baptist Church or the Canadian Cancer Society would be appreciated.

Clarence Boonstra

The Lord took unto Himself, Clarence Boonstra, peacefully at the Palmerston & District Hospital on Monday, January 6, 2014. Mr. Clarence Boonstra of Kurtzville, and formerly of RR # 1 Gorrie, in his 84th year.

Beloved husband of Dorothy (Stelpstra) Boonstra. Dear father of Ray and Shirley Boonstra of Palmerston, and Marguerite Jacobson of Kitchener. Grandfather of Jessica Boonstra and Steve Pecaskie of Kitchener, Erin Boonstra of Kitchener, Adam Boonstra of Palmerston and Lucas Boonstra of Palmerston. Great-grandfather of Kiera and Colton.

Predeceased by his brothers John Boonstra and his wife Fina, and Ruurd Boonstra.

Visitation will be held at the Eaton Funeral Home, Listowel on Thursday from 5 to 8 p.m. Funeral service will be held at Immanuel United Reformed Church, Listowel,on Friday, Jan. 10 at 11 a.m. Interment in Fordwich Cemetery.

Lolita Harbottle

Mrs. Lolita Irene (Kelley) Harbottle of Listowel passed away at Caressant Care on Tuesday, Dec. 31, 2013 at the age of 87.

Loving wife of the late Elvin Harbottle. Dear mother of daughters Kathleen Harbottle of Stratford, Linda Barre of Winnipeg, Joyce Harbottle of Listowel and Karen Daigneault of Winnipeg. Proud grandmother of Elvin, Stephen, Daniel and Alexander.

Sister of Harry Kelley (deceased) and his wife Margaret of Montreal, and Patricia Stevenson and her husband Norman (deceased) of St. Bruno, Quebec. Fondly remembered by her nieces and nephews.

Lolita was born in Montreal on Aug. 18, 1926 to parents Henry William Kelley and Rebecca Irene Kent. She attended Toronto Bible School and was accepted as a missionary in 1950 by SIM for service in Africa. She married Elvin in 1951 and they served in the Niger Republic as missionaries for over 30 years. They retired to Listowel and became involved in Bible studies at Knox Presbyterian Church. She moved to Caressant Care in 2007.

Visitation was held at the Eaton Funeral Home, Listowel on Friday, Jan. 3 from 5-7 p.m. The funeral service was held at Knox Presbyterian Church, Listowel on Saturday, Jan. 4 at 11 a.m. with visitation for a half hour prior to service. Spring interment in Fairview Cemetery, Listowel.

Verna Bauman

Verna Bauman (nee Martin) peacefully passed away at her home in Millbank on Thursday, Dec. 26, 2013. Verna was born Dec. 2, 1932, 81 years ago in Wellesley Township, the daughter of the late Daniel and Elizabeth Martin.

Beloved wife of the late Elmer Bauman, who predeceased her Jan. 3, 2000. Dear mother of Murray and wife Katie Bauman of Millbank and Leonard and wife Marilyn Bauman of RR 1 Newton; loving grandmother of Dean and Ellen, Wanda and Aaron Kauffman, Darcy, Sheila, Tracy, Julia and friend Shea, Laurie, Graham and Jolene; and great-granddaughters Averie and Jenna.

Remembered by her brothers Lorne Martin of Linwood, Edwin and wife Betty Martin of RR 5 Mount Forest, sisters Minerva and husband Urias Gingrich of Wroxeter, Velina Bauman of Elmira, Elvina Sauder of Kitchener, sisters-in-law Adeline Bauman of RR 1 Wallenstein and Susannah Bauman of RR 4 Elmira.

Verna was predeceased by great-granddaughter Hava Bauman; brothers Ervin Martin and Daniel Martin in infancy; brothers-in-law Daniel Gingrich, Alvin Sauder, Clayton Bauman, and sister-in-law Lucinda Martin.

Family and friends were received at the Mark Jutzi Funeral Home, Milverton on Sunday, Dec. 29 from 7-9 p.m. and again on Monday, Dec. 30 from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. A family service took place on Tuesday, Dec. 31 at 9 a.m. at the funeral home.

Transfer was made to Fairhaven Mennonite Meeting House, RR 1 Newton (north of Millbank) for the funeral service and burial in the adjoining cemetery at approximately 9:30 a.m.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Christian Aid Ministries.

Kathy Shiell-Stokes

Mrs. Kathryn Louise (Shiell) Shiell-Stokes of Listowel passed away at her home on Monday, Dec. 30, 2013 at the age of 55.

Mother of Iain Stokes of Sarnia, Douglas and Tina Stokes of Orlando, Florida, and Heather Stokes and Jeremy Martin of Listowel. Grandmother of Connor Stokes.

Daughter of Marlene (Hilson) Shiell. Sister of Bonnie Shiell of Ottawa, Karyn Reschner of Listowel, and Brad Shiell of Listowel. Aunt of Brandon Reschner of Manitoba, Tyler Reschner of Listowel, Meaghan Shiell, and Matthew Shiell of Guelph. Survived by special friends Ross Thompson of Calgary, and Glen Blackstock of London.

Predeceased by her father Glen Shiell, and brother Doug Shiell.

Visitation was held on Thursday, Jan. 2 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at the Eaton Funeral Home, Listowel where the funeral service was held on Friday, Jan. 3 at 3 p.m. Cremation, with interment in Elma Centre Cemetery.

Bob Sanderson

At Fordwich Village Nursing Home, on Friday, Dec. 27, 2013, Robert John Sanderson of Fordwich, age 81 years.

Beloved husband of Grace (Haåyden) Sanderson. Dear father of Paul Sanderson, Terry Sanderson and Wayne and Joyce Sanderson, all of Fordwich, Mike Sanderson and Catherine Elliot of Palmerston and Lisa and Chuck Turai of Orangeville. Loving grandfather of Jennifer, Melissa, Bryn, Rhys and Meg.

Brother of Jean and David Dinsmore of Howick Township. Also survived by Ruth Croft of Cambridge.

Predeceased by his parents Egbert and Mary (Higgins) Sanderson and by his sisters Helen Sanderson and Betty Jacklin.

Visitation was at McBurney Funeral Home Ltd., Wingham on Thursday, Jan. 2 from 12 noon until the time of the memorial service at 2 p.m. Rev. Jeff Hawkins officiated. Final resting place, Fordwich Cemetery.

Georgina Hammond

Georgina Christina Hammond (nee Hammer), 1919 – 2013, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her family, at Forest Heights Long-Term Care Centre, Kitchener, on Monday, Dec. 23, 2013 at the age of 94. Georgina was formerly of Atwood.

Predeceased by her beloved husband, Vernon Elmer Hammond in 1998 and son, Paul H. Hammond.

Loving mother of Garry V. Hammond, W. Robert Hammond and his wife Judy (nee Pearson), and Thomas A. Hammond. Dearly loved grandma of Sarah Eckert (Rob), Jodi Hammond, James Hammond, Joshua Hammond (Katie), and Zachary Hammond. Great-grandma of Dylan Eckert. Dear sister of Beatrice Yungblut.

Predeceased by her parents Simon and Anna Catherine (Krantz) Hammer; siblings Gordon Hammer, Gladys Neeb, Lorna Neeb, Milton Hammer, Elsie Stewart, Percy Hammer and Herbert Hammer; and parents-in-law Harold and Edna (Hiles) Hammond.

Growing up, Georgina, fondly known as Jean, was involved in numerous activities within her community, such as being a member of the Rebekahs and a 4-H leader. As an adult, Jean was a member of the Presbyterian Women’s Institute. Her many passions included curling (both playing and watching), quilting, dancing and singing, travelling, playing cards with friends, along with being a talented artist and an amazing seamstress!

Jean was a phenomenal cook, making family favourites of macaroni and cheese and her famous peach pancakes. She had a strong passion for fashion, right up until her 94th year, always ensuring her jewelry matched her outfits, and her hair was always perfectly done. Jean’s love for spending time with her family will be missed the most, along with her famous sayings, such as “Holy Doodle!”

Visitation was held at the Erb & Good Family Funeral Home, Waterloo on Sunday, Dec. 29 from 2-4 p.m. The funeral service was held in the funeral home chapel on Monday, Dec. 30 at 10:30 a.m. A reception immediately followed in the funeral home’s Fireside Reception Room. Spring interment in Elma Centre Cemetery, Atwood.

Marion Long

Mrs. Marion Eva (Johnston) Long of Listowel passed away at Stratford General Hospital on Thursday, January 2, 2014 at the age of 71.

Beloved wife of Bob Long. Daughter of Fern Johnston of Listowel and the late Harold Johnston. Mother of Cyndi and Jeff Higgins of Kitchener, Dwayne Long of Listowel, and Joanne Long of Elmira. Grandmother of Justin Daniel “J.D.”, Alex, Tyler and Benjamin.

Sister of Eleanor and Jim Edwards of Southampton, Ray and Connie Johnston of Monkton, Murray Johnston of Elora, Ken and Peggy Johnston of Atwood, and Joan Johnston of Kitchener. Remembered also by Bob’s family, many nieces and nephews, and her life-long friend Linda Paige.

Visitation was held at the Eaton Funeral Home, Listowel on Saturday from 2-4 p.m., where the funeral service was held on Sunday, Jan. 5 at 2 p.m.

Helen Mitchell

Mrs. Helen Braden (Montgomery) Mitchell of Listowel, and formerly of Fordwich, passed away at Fordwich Village Nursing Home on Friday, Jan. 3, 2014 at the age of 101.

Loving wife of the late Archie Mitchell. Beloved mother of Dorothy Vint, and Jim and Sharron Mitchell. Cherished grandmother of Susan (Robert), David, Ruth (Robert), Sherri, Shelly, Steven (Sybil), Sherry and Mike (Joe). Fondly remembered by eight great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.  Also survived by her special friend Lorne Bridge.

Predeceased by her son-in-law Jim Vint, six brothers and two sisters.

Visitation was held on Sunday, Jan. 5 from 6-8 p.m. at the Eaton Funeral Home, Listowel where the funeral service was held on Monday, Jan. 6 at 11 a.m.  Interment in Fairview Cemetery, Listowel.
